To educate youth and the public at large about
the vital role bats play in a healthy ecosystem.
Rationale:
In recent years,
the Bridger-Bangtail area has been
subject to an increase in human population and a proliferation
of pond-building projects.
With increased building comes
disruption of bat habitat and with an increase in standing
water comes more insects,
the primary food source for local
bats.
Description:
B2BC will enlist the assistance of local experts
to offer a lecture and workshop to interested area youth (and
young people from the surrounding public at large) on the
importance of bats to a healthy ecosystem and a course of
instruction on building and installing bat houses.
With
parental permission,
bat houses built by participants will be
installed at participant homes.
Long-term Outcome:
Area young people would gain an
understanding about the importance of bats in the ecosystem.
A group of environmentally conscious young people (and their
parents) interested in engaging in activity-based projects
would be formed.
If the project is successful and continues
forward,
area property and business owners would gain
information about bats and a ready source for bat houses (and
their installation).
