To provide assistance in raptor count research conducted on Golden
Eagles,
Hawks,
Owls,
Ospreys,
Falcons,
and other raptors traveling along the Bridger Mountains migratory
flyway.
Rationale:
The Bridger location has recorded more golden eagle sightings than any
other HWI monitoring station in the US.
Because raptors are at the top of the food chain,
they represent an effective barometer for the health of an ecosystem.
Description:
A team of B2BC volunteers will provide housing and logistical assistance
for HWI volunteer biologists during the two-month raptor-monitoring
project.
The Coalition will also organize weekly guided visits to the observation
point for the public.
Additionally,
B2BC will collaborate with HWI volunteers on public education
presentations to promote awareness of the annual fall migration and the
critical role of raptors in the ecosystem.
Long-Term Outcome:
With HWI data,
B2BC will build a computer- based inventory of related findings that can
be readily retrieved for Coalition use or made available to others
concerned about the ecosystem.
The inventory will become a primary source of data to continue building
an information base about the area.
