Environmental Integrity Defense of the
Bridger Bowl Base Area
Program Goal:
To protect the integrity of an environmentally
sensitive and important part of the greater Bridger Bangtail
area for now and future generations.
Rationale:
The Bridger Bowl Base Area is located at the top of
the Bridger Creek watershed.
Because of the unusual vertically
positioned geography of the area,
aquifers supplying the
resident wells also supply water to area creeks.
Over four
hundred acres in the area are under consideration for dense
development that may seriously affect the health of already
"impaired" streams,
disrupt important bird,
large mammal,
and
fish habitat,
and deforest large virgin growth areas.
The
development proposed does not adequately consider the needs
and limits of the environment and may produce irreversibly
negative consequences for the entire eastern slope area of the
Bridger Mountains.
Description:
B2BC will fund studies to assess current
conditions (including but not limited to area water and sewer
capacity,
slope stability,
stream and wetland health,
animal
population,
and affects of projected traffic on air and water
quality and animal mortality),
project likely outcomes,
and
make "least impact to the environment" recommendations.
Studies will be made available to others concerned about the
ecosystem.
If necessary,
B2BC will engage an attorney and fund
legal action to protect the integrity of the area.
Long Term Outcome:
An environmentally sensitive part of the
Bridger Bangtail area will be protected from unsound resource
management practices now and for future generations.
