To educate the public about environmentally
sound resource management practices.
Rationale:
There is a large constituency of concerned citizens
in the Gallatin Valley who can be mobilized to act on behalf
preserving the health of the greater Bridger Bangtail
ecosystem.
Through regular educational programs,
B2BC hopes to
put in place a mechanism to inform and activate these people.
Description:
B2BC will enlist the assistance of seven local
experts to speak on topics pertinent to the continuing health
of the area.
The lectures will be held in local community
centers or private homes.
B2BC supporters will be notified by
email and announcements to the public at large will appear in
the local press.
Topics proposed for 2008 include the
following:
Raptors in the Ecosystem,
Reclaiming the Wetlands –
to Pond or Not to Pond,
The Importance of Bats,
Where Have All the Bees Gone?
Bugs:
A Biological Defense Against Noxious Weeds,
Bare Facts About Bears,
and
What We Can Do About Spruce Budworm.
Long Term Outcome:
All those who live,
recreate,
and enjoy the
Bridger Bangtail area will begin to understand the impact
their actions have on the environment.
B2BC would like to
create a culture of considered intervention whereby private
property and business owners would begin to calculate the
needs and limits of the environment into their building plans.
